Ecological Group of Puerto Vallarta, A.C. consider that the trees that appear on the list below are suitable for a reforestation program in the area of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.
The intent of this list is not to be exhaustive or final. Is subject to suggestions, changes and corrections. Most trees here are now present in the area of Puerto Vallarta and allows the recolection of seed or cuttings for any resident of Vallarta to participate in reforestation.
A reforestation program can be done alone or in groups. These trees are for large green areas and are not recommended for sidewalks or densely populated areas.
Remember that tree roots extend, almost as much as the top. Should concider that almost all the trees here are big, fairly tall, crown and roots and they should not be planted near buildings, under power lines or near underground water lines or cables. All the trees must be in full sun, should not be planted in shady areas. Many of these trees have spectacular flowering period that attracts wildlife such as honey bees, hummingbirds, bees, etc.
Average rainfall in Puerto Vallarta is about 1500 mm per year, however, almost all of the rainwater falls between June to October, it is necessary to irrigate young trees during the months from November to May during early years (first 4 years).
